In 1875, a young Valle d'Aosta named Laurent Ottoz emigrated to France at the tender age of eight, following in the footsteps of numerous Valle d'Aosta people of the time. When he grew up he moved to Marseille, where, in the old port district, he opened the famous "Café des Alpins", thanks to which he supplied the district with his liqueurs.
